A GENERATION LOST

Swedish Ludvig is 24 years old and has tried for years to find a job. The support programs arranged by the Swedish Employment Service that he has followed have led nowhere. Out of desperation he starts planning a robbery against a supermarket in Halmstad where he lives. Ludvig is part of a generation of young Swedes who suffer from unemployment. The play is based on interviews with Ludvig and other young people who find themselves left out of the job market.

A generation lost was a commission from The Royal Dramatic Theater (Dramaten) in Stockholm and was performed with four different casts during two years. It was recorded and broadcasted by The National Swedish Television (SVT) and also invited to perform for politicians in the Swedish parliament. The play also played at Stora Teatern in Gothenburg and was presented as part of the festival Teaterdagarna arranged by Sweden’s National Touring Theater. In 2014, Marcus Lindeen directed an additional production at Örebro Länsteater with actors from their ensemble.

Marcus Lindeen also made a short radio documentary for The National Swedish Radio about Ludvig. The documentary aired in connection to the premiere of the play.
